1. Communities and Map Skills

The Town of Factoryville, Pa

Students begin the year with a study of communities and neighborhoods. They will learn about what it means to be a good citizen, and students will also familiarize themselves with the roles different members of our community fulfill such as policemen, firemen, doctors, etc. Students will also explore the different types of communities that exist in our country such as; cities, towns, suburbs, and rural areas. In order to help students navigate more easily through their communities, we will do several activities that reinforce map skills and the key components of directions.

2. Celebrate Diversity

As we approach the Winter Holiday season, students will involve themselves in several fun and engaging lessons about the customs and traditions of other countries. Some of the countries we explore are; Spain, Mexico, France, Italy, DenMark, Poland, Australia, England, Finland, Switzerland, Russia, and Ireland.

 

3. States

Towards the end of the year, students will learn about the United States of America. We will study maps and do several activities to familiarize the students with Pennsylvania's location in relation to the other states. Students will also have the opportunity to do a more in depth study of one particular state and present their research to the class.
