Homework Policy

Homework is an integral part of the educational process. Generally, homework is a reinforcement of the skills taught in class. It helps to develop personal study habits and responsibility. Additionally, homework can provide parents with the opportunity to talk to their child about current learning and foster ongoing communication about school activities. Therefore, in second grade the students will be given an appropriate amount of homework each week.

The students will be writing their assignment each day in their planner. An additional responsibility they will have is to ask you to sign their planner below their assignment each night. This helps you to stay informed and gives us the opportunity to communicate daily regarding any questions or comments you may have. Students will be given about 15 minutes of homework Monday-Thursday. Also, I will post the homework daily at http://www.schoolnotes.com/. To access this, simply type in our school's zip code (18419), and click on my name to receive the daily homework assignment.

As a homework incentive, all of second grade will have a "Fun Day" at the end of each month for those students who have not missed more than 2 days of homwork. The students really look forward to this every month. It involves a rewarding activity such as a gym day, game day, day at the park, or even a movie !

Ways you can help your child with homework

1. If possible, set up a quiet, comfortable study area with good lighting and the school supplies that your child needs (sharpened pencils, crayons, rulers, etc.).

2. Set a regular time and be consistent. Prioritize homework over watching TV, sports, etc.

2. Don't do your children's work for them. We know that you can complete the homework correctly, but the purpose of homework is to monitor your child's progress and provide additional practice with the lesson taught during school. If you notice that your child is continually having trouble completing the assignments, please contact me.
